The engine cuts out when i put the bike into first gear why?

I have a Suzuki Intruder 125cc reg 56, it has suddenly started to cut the engine out when i put it into gear. The clutch is still engaged. I have tryed altering the clutch and reving the engine to turn it over faster but it still cuts out. What is wrong with my bike and how do i fix it?

Might be like my GS500 engine cuts out when 1st gear selected if side stand is still down if your bike has same safety feature and you are putting stand up check that stand is hitting the switch

Would agree with the side stand switch, but clean or replace the switch as they are there for a reason.if the stand is left down it could spit you of without warning.ive seen this happen.

hi mate, I suspect the switch on the sidestand to be at fault, on modern bikes they are designed to cut out the engine if the bike is put into gear with the stand down so as to stop you riding off with the stand down, hope this helps, this is also linked to a switch on the clutch lever so check the wiring there as well,

the side stand swith is telling the engine it is down, check the switch and make sure it it operating(going in and out)properly .you can just disconnect it if its faulty and either leave the two wires from the loom apart or together all depending on which way makes it work.it could also be a problem with the neutral light switch not working try putting the wire for it straight to the engine case and see if the neutral light lights up its situated down behind the front sprocket cover of the left side of the bike as you sit on it.ok
