I currently have a hotpoint fdw60 dishwasher that will not dissolve the dishwasher tablet.The tablet is a a finish powerball as recommended by the manufacturer

I had the same problem, the fault was found to be the top spray arm. Although the arm felt free to turn, it's rubber seal had stretched, and the plastic mount that the seal spins on was broken. I bought a complete arm from 4hotpoint.co.uk, fitted it in seconds, and the tab is now dissolving

I have the same problem, but with two dishwashers! We had an integrated one when we moved in and when this problem of tablets not disolving came up, we took it out and put in our 6 month old Bosch, which has always worked perfectly. And...the same thing happened. So it's obviously not the dishwasher itself but a problem with the water supply. I have a plumber coming to look tomorrow so if I find anything helpful out I'll post it.
