i have a 2004 fiat punto sporting that has become very noisy i thought it was the exhaust vibrating but it has become worse now and sounds like something is grinding and think it could be to do with the gearbox/clutch, before i noticed the grinding noice the clutch was noisy when it was in neutral and was quite when engaged to select gears. if anyone can help it would be much apprecaited

it sounds like you are describing a collapsed clutch thrust bearing you need to verify this first but if it is you will need a new clutch assembly and probably a new thrust fork
