My Astra MK4 odometer doesnt display total mileage anymore?

the trip odometer works fine but the total counter only shows dashes. What can I do to remedy this.

I have come across plenty of odometers with the backlights gone and you have to shine torch on them to see this is easily repaired by inserting new bulb. In your case however it sounds like replacement is needed.
