peugeot 405 turbo diesel ?

Peugeot 405 turbo diesel from 1994. We have major problems getting the car to start. Will turn over and turn over but just not catch, once we have it started and revved up a few times it runs fine. Battery is ok and local garage recently fitted a new fuel pump. I live in Sweden so is quite cold here in mornings (-10c), havent checked glow plugs yet but am planning to do so tomorrow but how do I know if it is the plugs?

WE have Puegeot 405 TD and live in Snowy Mountains. Recommend glowing 3 times at least and then waiting 12 - 15 seconds after before starting. and give some throttle and keep key turned until it goes. Works for us and we have been down to -4.

i have the same question as above, car is a puegeot 405 diesel, it is hard to start most of the time, battery is fine, glow plugs are new and are working perfectly, could it be that the fuel filter needs replacing? or possibly a fuel pump problem, once the car is started it runs fine

i got a 405 TD too. I advise that you preheat/glow for a while. If you open the bonnet and turn the key to preheat you will hear after about 10-15 sec. a click. Now try to start.
I usually count to 12 secs and then start.
Also you may try to squeeze the handpump (on the left side of engine block) and see if there isn't enough fuel getting to it. this may indicate a leak in your fuel system.
(I got a leak in the fuel system at the moment and trying to find it.)

use a test meter to check for voltage at the glow plugs by touching any glow plug supply wire when the ignition has just been turned on if there is no live then check the glow plug relay on the left hand side of the car by the headlamp if there is power to the glow plugs you can test them by disconnecting all the glow plugs [with the ignition off]and using a test meter set to read resistance put one side of the meter to the plug body and the other to the electrical point on top of the glow plug if it is functioning ok there should be little or no resistance
