engine coolant too hot ... warning !!?

when i drive my peugeot 307 for some considerably distance (eg 30 miles) my stop light flashes and " engine coolant too hot " appears on my dash . my friends say it could be the thermostat as, as well as this problem my car heater takes more time than normal to heat up the car . any thoughts ????

in most cases with 307s its the temp sensor on the engine at fault there was a bad batch of these sensors get that replaced

Get your car to the garage asap. if you are driving it too long then chances are your head gasket will go, have you by any chance been filling up your water bottle often ,check it !! hopefully you may have just a matrix problem,
