The stop light & battery light came on in my girlfriends megane as she was coming home. She said there was a smell of smoke in the car when driving.

I checked the oil and sniffed the dip stick smelt like burning oil. No oil light warning coming up on dash display.

I noticed the steering felt a little bit heavier the other day. I tried to put a charge on the battery but no change. Can the car still be driven? Girlfriend panicking and wanting my car for work!

any suggestions? Please help.
