02 1700 diesel Astra van, 120,000 miles, engine cut out and would not restart, towed home. Started next morning ok and run ok for 2 weeks on short journeys. it then failed again in a similar way. Next day it started again but only run about 300 yds before failing again. It started again but failed 30 seconds later and would not restart. I unplugged and reseated the 2 plugs on top of the ECU, then tried to restart without success. would this action cause loss of the codeing? Any ideas on the original fault? many thanks.

no you wont affect the immobiliser code by unplugging the vehicle ecu /before you dive in to changing the pump is the engine management light on when the ignition is turned to the on position if not recheck the plugs on top of the ecu these ecus fail due to vibration if theres no management lighy its either a poor connection or the ecu has failed next check the leak off pipes to the injectors for fuel leakage they draw air and cause the fuel to drain back via the return pipe if the leakoff pipes are all ok crack off a fuel pipe to the top of an injector and crank the engine to see if the pump is delivering fuel to the injectors if its not remove the top off the fuel filter and check that you have fuel in the filter also if all this checks out as ok then get it plugged into a diagnostic machine to verify your fault it could even be a faulty crank sensor but vauxhall fuel pumps do fail on a regular basis ..pete
