gilera dna 125 rear brake caliper?

whilst coming home from work i heard a bang and my rear brake caliper had fell off, my pads appear to be very low so think this could have been the reason why, also it had been sat for a couple of months as i came off and fractured my arm, so the bike was a little knocked about so this could of also contributed the problem, so im just learning what ever i can about stripping it and doing all the work myself. should i be looking at any other major areas other than just the rear brake system after the accident it was in

If I was back on M/cycling and it happened to me I would go over the bike with a fine tooth comb check welds tyres wheels I'd check the lot including wheel alignement and even parts that look ok. They may look ok at first glance, closer inspection can reveal damage.
I'm an Ex m/cyclist now car driver but with respect for m/cylists and cyclist I was one once and experienced occasions with a******s cutting me up.
