why does my clutch master cylinder go every 9 mths?

Every 9 months for the past few years my clutch pedal starts sticking and my gears become really stiff to use so i take it to garage and they replace the master cylinder and problem is solved but then same again happens 9 mths later. What could be causing master cylinder to keep breaking?

Thankyou very much gtwannabe - that sounds like a very possible solution to my problem.

My car is a GT TDi 1.9 VW Golf 2002

you will need to ask again stating make and model of your car but 1st instinct is worn clutch pedal pivot or pivot bushes causing your pedal to push on master cylinder at an abnormal angle and damage the piston in your master cylinder
