How can i find out what is wrong?

Citroen Berlingo 1.9 diesel;

Left indercator stays on constant, along with reverse lights all on the passenger side. When breaking reverse lights work as the break light.
Comes and goes when it likes for example; everything is normal in the van but when i indercate left the reverse lights flash this is when my headlights arnt on (daytime).
When foot on break, i can take the key out of the ignition and the engine still runs??

Has anyone ever came across this problem before?

Ive had the back clusters out and the break light switch creates the indercator and reverse lights to stay on constandly.
Ive been told that a live wire could be touching the earth, but where could it be??
when i leave my foot on the break, the engine runs with the keys out but then other days it doesnt.

Quite a simple 1 i think. Remove your rear light fittings - the bit the bulbs go in - you will probably find that either the bulb holders/plugs are soaking wet and maybe a build up of a green coloured sludge. Clean this off (scrape/small wire brush) then spray plenty of WD40 about the area. You may find the terminals are completely rotten in which case replacement holders will be in order. Another probably easier to check will be to make sure you actually have the correct bulbs in place. What is happening is that there is a live feed returning to your fuse box wihen you apply the brakes which is coming from your side light circuit hence the engine running on etc.
