Riello pump replacement?

I had a reillo burner fitted 1 year ago. I had it serviced a month ago. It stopped working 3 days ago as the oil ran out but I realised this and did not attempt to re-start it. when the oil was delivered it would not start and I have been told the pump is broken and will be charged £180 to fix it.

Q - what is the shelf life of a pump given I have only had it a year?

Q - should a service not reveal any problems with a pump?

Q - is £180 a fair price for replacement inc labour?

amanda depends on location, regarding price.n.ireland price would have been 120.00 all in, did tec show u that the pump was faulty, if not, bad skills. basically it depends on trust, i would be sceptical myslf. dont want to get into it, but seems strange!

The pump itself cost £105. The labor charge is not excessive. I just replaced mine by myself because it was leaking and that was the only indication I had that there was trouble. They're usually pretty rugged and generally not prone to catastrophic failure. I don't know in your case how much testing was done to determine whether the problem is the fuel pump but sludge or an enormous amount of dirt could have been pulled through from a low tank. But, you should have an inline filter and the pump even has its own filter screen to trap this.Perhaps these elements are dirty.
