how can i replace a fanbelt on a 1997 citroen xsara 1.8i sx?

the fanbelt has just gone and torepair it at a garage would cost more than it is worth. I have little mechanical experience: is it a job I could attempt using a haynes manual given my knowledge/lack of?

To replace a fanbelt wouldn't cost much at all.
Are you sure it is not the cam belt you are talking about? If you don't even know that then don't even think about attempting the work.
