Boot will not lock?

I am unable to manually lock the boot on my renault clio Y-reg. The actual doors close but the boot will not, so I have to leave it unlocked. There is a little 'U' shape clip on the boot which keeps slipping down everytime I try to close the boot door. Can anyone please help?
