My ageing garden vac Flymo EV750 suddenly stopped working.
Took apart, checked fuse, cable, switch and found all was good. Did a close inspection of motor brushes and whilst removing first found the tail on the retaining spring was broken. This tail needs to make contact with the motor power connector and the other spring tail provides pressure on the bush to make sure it is pushed against the commutator. I managed to manipulate the spring using pliers to unwind the spring coil to create a tail that would connect to the power and fitted it back in place. Put the motor back and checked it out-it worked. How long? time will tell. Didn't need to buy a new motor and I went on to complete the vacuuming job. Well chuffed :-)

Usually, this is caused by the bag not seating properly. At the rear of the bag, you will notice a small 'tongue' that enters the main body when the bag is in place. This operated a safty switch.
