I have a Hotpoint SDW80 and this worked a treat for me to. So easy to do. Ordered part from espares, take out 8 screws, fix new latch. Done.

Same problem here, dishwasher would work but door not shutting so steam escaped. Ordered the part from ebay for less than £10 delivered and I fitted it in under 10 minutes. Working fine now :-)

Hi there, just had the same problem with mine and have managed to unscrew door and get lock out and right enough the spring is missing so have ordered new lock and its all thanks to you guys on here x

Same problem, it appeared as if there was an obstruction but upon finding this site realised it was likely the door latch, and upon following the very straightforward instructions on the espares website link a few posts back, took out the old one, and sure enough the spring was broken. Have just ordered a new one, cost under £11 inc P&P.
Chances are if you have a different model it will still work, the exact same door latch seems to fit 51 different Hotpoint dishwashers according to the espares website, plus other makes as well.

I had the same problem with the door suddenly not shutting and I followed the advise that all of you kind people have provided and have just saved over £90 so thank you for everyone who has contributed answers.

I had the same problem. There is a small coil spring that has snapped and fallen into the door. Replacement cost less than £15. For y Hotpoint Aquarius FDA60 I used MasterPart no MDAC00094128 and it took 15 minutes to replace.

Had a similar problem. Dishwasher would still work though steam escaped. Having read below, I opened the latch. The springs appeared intact but the latch was stuck in the open position. Pushed it back with screwdriver, sprayed WD 40 in the springs and all seems to be working fine (did make sure the dishwasher was empty before I closed it as I didn't fancy locking everything in!!)

Hi all and thank goodness for the internet.fdw60
Had same problem today, washed fine then door would not close.
Assumed it was the latch, stripped it down and all appeared ok until I checked out the website picture mentioned above and the spring was missing - it must have pinged off somewhere.Ordered one from that website - didn't shop around just ordered there and then - fingers crossed.
cheers all !!

I have the same problem with the door latch. Took cover off and found th spring in the latch had snapped. Called Hotpoint to find there'll be a £100 call out. Will try your advice Stace, replacing latch myself will be a more cost effective way of solving a simple problem!

Sorry, mine is definitely the door latch just looked at an image on this site http://www.espares.co.uk/part/dishwashers/hotpoint/p/1083/808/0/0/509247/dishwasher-door-interlock.html
and there is a spring which my latch doesn't seem to have

I have a similar problem, it's not the latch as that seems to work fine, nor is it the seal as that has been removed.
the issue seems like there is an obstruction forcing the door open

Hi

Sounds like the door latch is broken. Its just happened to me.

I was going to buy a new dishwasher because I thought it would be simpler and engineers almost cost the same as a new unit anyway!!

I started to dig around and found the you can buy a latch replacement from domesticspares.co.uk. Latch Product Id: 6013.

The dishwasher door has about 12 screws on the inside. Take out the top 4 and the remove a couple from each side until you can see the latch (Don't mix the screws up, they are different), remove the 2 screws holding the latch and unplug the spade connectors. Get you new latch, plug in the spade connectors, screw it back into place (with the 2 screws) and then screw the door back together again.

The latch cost about £12 delived and even though I had never done anything like this before had it apart, replaced and working in about 15 minutes!!!

Good Luck
