How can I fix my Homelite Chainsaw?

I have a Homelite chainsaw that is 3-4 years old. I recently took it out to use it after a couple of years. I can't pull the starting rope even 2 inches from the case to try to start it. I can't imagine it is locked up just from sitting, but I can't get it to budge. Has anyone experience something like this and no how to resolve it?

I have a homelite 240, I have cleaned carb. and put a new filter in the gas tank. I can start it and it runs fine, when I start to cut a branch it always cut off. I can let it run for 5 mins. and move it around, but when I cut wood it shuts off.???

take the plug out and the side chain cover off and see if you can crank the motor over using a wrench on the clutch, go gently, the motor should spin easily, if this doesn't do it then the starter mechanism n=may be jammed so remove and check.
If no fault found then it is oil down the spark plug hole and wind over with a wrench on the clutch time - I wouldn't think the engine would seize through standing but the above should help just don't use excesive force.
