How can i check to see if the fuel pump on my renault 5 1.7 GTX is working?

My Renault 5 GTX (F-reg) came to a sudden stop the other day and i have not been able to start it since. There seems to be a problem with the fuel pump/line and getting the fuel to the carb. There is fuel in the tank, the battery etc is fine but there is no-kick when starting the engine. Is this a common problem and is the fuel pump mechanical or electrical?

how do you replace it then? I ALSO HAVE THE PROBLEM.
They want £30 to £80 at the garage. I'd rather do it myself.

I had a similar problem on my F reg GTX. Found it to be dirt blocking the jet in the carb. 10 minute job.

ps. hope you sorted yours out.
