I have a scantronic 9800 -- have fault code rt -illegal use of keypad . Have rented property out and are unsure of code - how do i get around this problem - it is not wired up to the alarm company or police any more .

Following up on my original question -At the moment the fuse is out and the backup battery unplugged - so no power to alarm. If i connect up the alarm goes off . Do i still put the code in (not sure i remember the code ) or what should i do ?

For heavens sake, if you don't know how to fix this problem, don't post.

rt = Illegal use of Keypad ( in other words, too many key presses )

tr = External bell tamper.

To solve the rt problem, if this display happens again, walk away from the Keypad for a minute or two then put your code in again, that should sort it.

Example, your code is 1234, in error you enter 12234, you realise the mistake, enter the correct number, 1234, then rt is displayed,

The control panel thinks you are trying to 'find' the code and recognises all your key presses as 122341234 < not your code, problem, rt displayed.

Why you have been advised to default the panel and reprogramme is totally beyond me, unnecessary, and it's not the bell box either

Old timer, you have told the guy how to reset his code but not how to resolve the problem. The rt is a tamper problem with the bell box.

If its an old model scantronic 9800 downpower mains and battery, remove NVM chip from pcb [small plugged in chip],power up the panel battery first then mains,now replace NVM chip ,the panel will default all programming to factory settings, enter default customer code 1234, you will need to program to your own requirements using engineering code 0-7890.remember to replace NVM the correct way round ,see dot on chip adjacent pin 1.
If its a 9800+ you can default the codes only by shorting the kickstart and reset pins before powering up battery first ,remove short from pins then restore mains power.
