Phoenix is the maker of the BIOS which is stored in ROM. The Operating System (Windows?) is stored on the hard disk and so it sounds like he broke the hard disk. (That must have been some drop as most Laptop hard disk can survive any buy the most violent drops.)
Use the {Phoenix setup to see if there is a hard disk present. If Phoenix reports: no then you need a new hard disk and the OS and all the application software will need to be reinstalled on it. You have lost any personal data.
