How do i fix a jammed rear door on my Renault 19 turbo diesel?

It is an L reg. The rear nearside door wont open from the inside or outside. The other 3 doors and boot open and lock using the key on the driver's door. All the window buttons lock and unlock excepting the problem door. I've tried lifting the window button by hand and although it raises and lowers, the door still doesn't open. Any ideas?

Hi

JC here again.

Just to say a combination of the following extracts found elsewhere on the forum have helped me to at least be able to open the door.

Unfortunately I can't remember the contributors' names, so can't thank them personally, but I am very grateful to them.

I had to try various types and thicknesses of plastic, but it worked eventually after about 1/2 hour.

1) " I too had the same problem, child lock on and the door wont open from outside or inside. I used a 30cm ruler to turn off the child lock (the non shatter type). Poke it through the side of the door level with the bottom window and you should it a click. It took me about 5 seconds to turn off child lock. As for the door mech, well we will soon see once the panel is off."

2) "cut a thin flexible piece of plastic 30mm x 200 mm from a clear plastic document holder . use it from the outside to push the child lock inwards thereby disengaging it. I'm a far cry from a car thief and i succeeded in 30 seconds. Just check first roughly the area you need to be in from the other door . have the window down and keep trying handle from the inside. At least then the door is semi functional."
