try not to hose the engine bay with water paul- i did it to mine and it wouldnt start because i got it in the distributor cap. It would, however, be odd for the problem with your auto gearbox to relate to you hosing it down but anything is possible. I have read that the el's had problems with gears in that 3rd gear wouldn't change up easily, but replacing the atf in the gearbox, or in the worst cases the whole gearbox, was the solution in that circumstance. If you still strongly believe its an electrical problem try taking off the covers of the ecu and either leaving it in the sun or using an air blower to dry it up.
