I have had the same problem... unfortunately it is not good news.
The problem on mine was an internal gear box fault and the end result was either to risk a box from a scrappy (not recommended) a Dealer box exchange (bl**dy expensive)
I opted for a gear box overhaul from a local auto box specialist that cost me £400+vat. not cheap but i wasn't going to scrap the car.
