Punto Mk2 8v Engine - new ECU? - How to program it??
Re my own earlier question re engine miss-firing on cylinders 2&3 only. It was the ECU and not the Coil packs. Make sure you swap them over and try out before proceeding and buying a new ECU from Fiat, or anywhere else. If you do need to buye the ECU (Fiat charge £352) then fit it and programme the ECU as follows. Run the engine (with flashind engine warning light lit on the dashboard) until the engines electric cooling fan cuts in, when it does, rev the engine until it over revs and starts cutting out, relaese the accelerator pedal and do the 'over revving' bit 3 or 4 times - until the flashing light on the dashboard goes out. You've now reprogrammed the ECU, without needing to change keys, locks or ignition switches. This is officially how the Fiat mechanics do it, and Fiat charge a fortune for it too. It only takes 15 minutes from start to finish and anyone can do it.
