How can i fix my black and decker kr600cre drill?

My chuck is the twist lock type - no key.The mechanism to release it has broken with the drill still in the chuck.Any ideas as to how i get it open to release the drill and fit a new chuck?

Just had to solve the same problem - sorry, a bit late for you.

Large pair of mole grips to squash the plastic twist lock sufficiently that it held and undid, rather than spinning uselessly.

Whether the drill will be of any further use I don't know, but at least I rescued the bit.

A couple of ideas for you:

Put a large pair of pliers on the old chuck and see if there is any way that you can get it open to get the bit out.

If that doesn't work then the best thing to do would be to get a Dremel Tool with a bit that cuts into metal (metal cutting bit) and try cutting down the side of the chuck. Then you can also try splitting it open with a chisel.
