How do I change the battery on a Renault Clio. I hear that if done the incorrect way, it could lead to major damage to the electrics.

disconnect the negative (black) wire first, then take the positive (red) off.
Unbolt the nut holding the battery in place. Lift it out. Put new battery in, bolt up the but which holds it in place again...... connect positive (red) first then negative(black) and your done. simples......
