How do I determine what's wrong ? ie. thermostat, circuit board, switch etc. Everything else on machine working OK !

My drier heater hasn't been working for about 3 months.
Didn't really matter due to the summer months.
In the last 10 minutes I have just replaced the green dot thermostat after throwing at the flagstones about 4 or 5 times.
My drier is now heating again.
Thanks very much to all, I thought I was going to have to lay out for a new heating element.

I threw the green dot to the floor...nothing, well it's broken anyway, so I threw it harder...nothing. What the Heck I really bowled the little thing toward terra firma with all my might. Tah Dum.. it popped...wow...I am so thrilled, thank you thank you. Tumble dryer is back in action. What a relief. THANK YOU!!

a million thanks to this site.. googled "hotpiont acquarius tumble dryer not heating up" .. found this site.. we dismantled the back as suggested .. found the little white thermostat disc with the tiny green dot painted on it.. felt that the rear of this disc was flat( while the other one was convex) THREW IT AROUND QUITE A FEW TIMES!! found cement floor worked best and now have a functioning dryer .. yay us and well done How To Mend It.

I have a Creda Crusader! Already checked thermostats and found top overheat one ( blue dot ) was showing an open circuit and needed replacing as they are one shot! Unfortunately you have to purchase the two thermostats. Was looking for cheapest replacement suppliers and found this thread whilst searching. Done the drop test ( helped with a slight force ) and was just about to do the pin in the back hole reset and pop. Away she went, continuity test showed closed circuit and refitted. All fine and dandy!
Amongst one of the 5 best quick fixes/solutions I have ever come across.
Absolutely full marks and thanks to Maggie 2009 for original posting.
Also to Roddaz for his back up pin in the hole although it was not needed. But there are two excellent possible solutions for people.

Used the solution on this forum to get the heating working again. Although could not get the thermostat to pop by dropping so use a bit of gaffer tape and stuck to the foil side and gently lifted it off and this worked a treat. Machine now heating up and saved me all the call out and part costs. Thanks.

Checked all the previous answers, I had the same problem stat with coloured marker had no continuity.
Removed power from drier,removed stat rear of stat has very small hole in middle used pin to reset the stat convex not concave, made loud click when set reinstalled now working OK.

Checked the thermostats and yes one of them was depressed ( SAD ) done what was said by banging it on a hard surface and it popped out , replaced it and is now working ( Happy ) . Thank's for the tip !
To be fair it wa my fault for overloading it causing a build up of heat in the covering .

I have had exactly the same issue with my hotpoint TDC32 that has been mentioned here, regarding not heating. I replaced the heating element (40 odd pounds). Made no difference, but to be fair it looked like it it had seen better days as it was falling apart.
I discovered this site and dropped the thermostat with the green dot on the floor. This did the trick. Tumble working fine. Many thanks for all the posts.

Brilliant! Yes the internet, IMO, is killing the high street but when skint it really does the trick. I have just followed these instructions and have a working [well in my short test at least] tumble dryer. Saved at least a £35 call out charge.

Don't you just love online solutions from people with the same problem. I was about to call the repair service and had even looked at new dryers online when I saw these posts. Followed the advice about removing back panels, unclipping stat and bounced it, albeit carefully, off a work surface and sensor popped back. Reinstalled, covers back on, power on and hey presto we have a working dryer at no further cost. Thanks folks.

Had the same problem with our TDC32. Thought I would try the simple solution first so clouted the back of the machine a good few times with a walking stick and what luck, it is now heating up again!! Thank you all so much for the advice and for saving me so much time and frustration.

The heating went on my condenser drier and used a hobby hot glue gun and put a little on the thermostat disc and used pliers to pull it outwards first time -- works perfectly

I had the same problem as many others all working fine but no heat, I had already replaced the heater element(45 pounds) so I knew it was fine ,I tried dropping the thermostats as suggested and,now all is working.Its not difficult just take your time.Thanks to all who took the time to answer questions really helped.

I have a hotpoint condensor dryer, the drum rotated but no heat, i am so pleased with finding this help its saved me a lot of money. I did have to youtube what heating elements looked like and where to find them though ( i have no idea how the inside of a tumble dryer works) and after a bit of diy and everyones advice it worked a treat ! thankyou ... from a mom of 2 little boys who cause me lots of washing and drying x

it may be your thermostats or the eliment,i would try the thermos first as they are not that dear to buy about a tenner as the heating eliment is aprox £45,hope this helps.

7 year old dryer two boys failed on a sunday and thought no way gonna be able to fix it but back off checked the green thermostat dropped it about 6 times and bingo. Cheers this fix was a life saver really could do without a new drier just before christmas

We had same problem on our TDC32 about 6 months ago - I replaced both thermostats as recommended (though only one had popped) and dryer worked fine...BUT dryer not used over summer until about 2 weeks ago when tried it and now not heating again.

Thermostats seem fine, and dryer still doesn't work if they are shorted out...can anyone tell me if I now need to check this 'fluff switch' and where to find it? Or is it more likely element has gone?

Thought i would take the time to add my comment as this site has just saved me at least £50 from calling out a repair man. I had recently replaced the two thermostats (one with green dot) on my hotpoint Aquarius TDC32. Then it stopped heating again after a few months so i assumed it was the heating element. I purchased this for £48 but did not have to fit it so managed to get a refund because i read about checking the thermostat to make sure it was 'popped out'. I wasn't sure about whacking it on the floor but yes it definately worked!! I did have to do it quite a few times but the dryer is working fine now and i am grateful for the useful tips etc.

Absolutely check the two thermostats on the machines back gently press to see if they pop (Likea a seal on a baby food jar) the one with a green dot didn't we took it out side and dropped it onto the floor and after a couple of attempts out it popped and volia my machine is heating again...thankyou everyone for your help saved me a packet xx

had similar problems with no heat

bit the bullet and took the back off myself,got to the thermostats took them out after noticing what way and order they went back in.

looked at both of them noticed the one with the dot was pushed in and the one without wasnt

so tried the drop solution starting from about 1 foot till i got about 1.5 meters till it finally popped back out
put them back in the same way
and now it works perfect

I had same problem with thermostats, the J1 TOD thermostat failed so I replaced it, works fine now.Found out that the metal front plate was depressed so I got some sticky glue and pulled plate back out, this thermostat now works too. Try it, could save you some money!!

mine is the TVM 560P

Twice it failed during warranty and the second time the engineer said that if the hose gets kinked or blocked against the windowsill the machine builds ip too much heat and trips the thermostats. It happened again this week so i searched ebay and got a pair of thermostats from ASUDS...£6.99 + P&P (total £8.68) ordered on Sunday, arrived on Wednesday to Northern Ireland, fitted and working. Well pleased!

a man showed me how to fix my thermostat , take it out and drop it from about 20 cms from floor and it pops hey presto it works , my dryer wasn't heating up and the man came and showed me how to do , i didn't need to get a repair man out and saved myself £50 happy days ......you could also try whacking the back where it goes apparently that can also work

I have had problems with this dryer since I got it over two years ago. It worked great for exactly 12 months, and then the noise started.
The noise is very loud and annoying (Worst than a dentist’s drill)
The noise does stop after the machine heats up to normal (after about 10 minutes)
Next the heat stopped, with the help and advice from this site, I fixed the heat problem myself.
A local fix-it firm wanted £30 pounds just to call out and look at it.
I still had to order the parts from them at a cost of £14 pounds.
Be careful how you fit the thermostats, one has a tiny white dot on the back the other hasn’t, it’s important to fit the white dotted one in the right place, lucky for me I had marked one of the connecting wires with a dot before I had removed it.
A couple of weeks ago the drum suddenly stopped turning.
I took the back off and cleaned around a strange looking copper fitting, which is attached to the drum axle, and put it back together again.
The next time it happened I done nothing, and after a few minutes the drum turned as normal.
I believe there must be an ‘automatic cut-out’ after too much use.
I will never buy another Hotpoint dryer again!
The last unnamed dryer I had (although not a condenser) worked fine for over seven years.

Ages since you asked but here's an answer anyway. Just had a similar problem with my 4 year old Hotpoint TDC60. I fixed mine by replacing the thermostats. Could your TDC32 have the same problem?

How I replaced the thermostats:

Unplugged the machine.

Thermostats are on the rear of the machine.
To access them I had to unscrew and remove three covers:
First Cover is about 2" square and located on the back, centrally.
Second is just below the first and is actually a piece of angle, horizontal and about 21x1".
Third is the large cover shaped like a moon boot. This piece has a gasket. My 'moon boot' was stuck to the large back panel of the machine. I gently prised the 'moon boot' away with a flat bladed screw driver. On inspection it looked like it was dried dust that had caused the panels to stick together; the gasket was fine.

With the three panels removed, I saw the two thermostats directly above the heating element.

Using a continuity tester I found that one of the thermostats had no continuity.

**Before removing them I took a digital photo to record where the wires and the thermostat with the coloured dot were located**.

I removed the thermostats.

I ordered and bought a pair of new thermostats from my local white goods spares shop for £17. They only come in pairs.

I fitted the new thermostats using my photo for reference.

I chucked the broken thermostat and kept the working, but old, thermostat.

Finally, I replaced the covers and plugged in the machine. It works!

will be youre stats if not experienced enough to test with power on take stats out and check for continuance with a multimeter iam not familiar with youre model if ok check for a third stat some call them a fluff switch if this goes it cuts the power off to heater

We had/have this problem. Everything works except no heat. Last time we called an engineer out who found a burnt-out connection in the middle-back of the machine where the element is (10 or so screws to get to it). Worked fine for a while but has not worked all summer.

Just looked at it again (as winter is approaching) and the burnt-out connection is not the problem this time...if we get it fixed I'll post an update.
