Transit Connect 2009 - How to programme new key?

I have just got a new Transit Connect and very happy with it :)
It only came with one remote key and one normal key (Both start the engine). I've bought a new extra remote key which I've programmed to lock / unlock the doors with out any problem.
The big question is how do I programme the ignition (PATS) system to let the new key start the engine ?
I've already tried the put 1st key in put 2nd key in then put new key in, but that just doesn't seem to work, any ideas ?

Hi Kevin, thanks for that bit of information. I will try programming the key to a car that I already know works with the 2 key system. If it fails to prgramme then its the key, and if it does programme then its the Van.

Hi theres two different types of key for the transit/connect. The cheaper key looks the same but requires it to be programmed in by ford the proper key should be stamped ford (and theres fakes in these as well) i bought one of a reputable dealer on e-bay they will garantee it programmes in using the two key techniq. You can also go to ford and buy a genuine key but once again be careful as some dealers will try to sell you the cheaper version of the key and tell you they need to code it into the vehicle costing £65+. The original key can be hard to distinguish from the cheap key. If my memory serves me correct the original key should cost you around £25+ vat and about 3 to 5 pounds for cutting but always ask before purchasing off anyone does it work with the two key programming techniq
