when cambelt breaks on citroen c8 diesel 1997cc do valves always damage?

can they be replaced or is it new engine time

hi mike, my cambelt failed 2 days ago, my car ia at my local friend mechanic, he spoke of some device fitted to some hdi models that prevents pistons hitting the valves, i will let you know, hopefully by tomorrow. i'm praying to God he knows what his talking about.

Hi Mark, I can't find any specific info on your model infact the C8 is'nt listed?? but all of the other models are what they call "interferance fit" engines which means in the event of a belt failure valve to piston contact is most likely ie big damage!! the only definate way to find out is to pull the head off and see, you could do a blow down compression test
