where is waterpump attached on 97' ford escort?

I have a 97' Ford Escort with 2.0 engine that has mechanical rattle\grinding noise. could waterpump bearing do this?
gary Lamson, December 2005
Firstly the car must be a 96' to be a 2.0lt or it must be an 1800
being the nearest to a 2 lt.
The water pump is not driven by the timing belt.

Yes it could be that but could also be alternator bearing as well.

This is probably driven by the timing belt. If your rattle/grinding noise is from the timing belt end of the engine then it could be the water pump or timing belt roller/tensioner. Probably best you dont drive it until you find the cause.
