I am also getting enganged tone. Have tried unplugging base station for 5 seconds and this hasn't worked.
Has anyone any other suggestions. I did have a power cut today and was wondering if this had anything to do with the handset not working.

there could be a fault with your line(loop). contact your service provider. you can also try to connect the base station to another line that you know to be working, to prove the above diagnosis
