qualcast 35s classic petrol lawn mower - keeps cutting out?

I have tried to cut my lawn for first time this year, it ran for about 15 minutes but was not running very well, now it starts but cuts out, if I manually pull the trottle it keeps running, any ideas, i inherited the mower from my late father and do not have any instructions

Mine does not cut out but on longish damp grass the blades stop turning.and I have to move them manually to get them rotating again. I am on the highest setting.

If spark plug cap damaged can this cause mower to start then cut out

have the same problem I think it is when it gets hot my book says there are adjustment screws on the side of the carb. but not to be found most frustrating.

The value, with a spring, on the bottom of the full bowl allows you to drain the water/dirt in the fuel. if you push up on it, gas should drip out

i have no tension on the pull start, any ideas please

It runs only on full choke Cannot close the choke without the engine dies!

hi, i also have a 35s with no manual and no idea how to start it, could someone please help. cheers gary

Sounds like it could be the choke being left on OR just re-set the carb from the base point adjusting the air screw until it runs smooth.

I suspect the petrol is old or there is residue of old petrol in the tank. Unleaded petrol leaves a gooey residue in the bottom of the tank and I discover in the carb and if bad, mine was, makes the inlet valve stick open, then the engine doesn't run at all. Take the pipe off the bottom of the petrol tank and drain. Swill some fresh petrol around in the tank and drain.
Connect back up and hey presto it should be okay.

Found your question while looking for a manual myself.

Could be a number of simple things but sounds like a partially blocked air filter which can lead to a sooted up plug. Try cleaning the air filter (the silver "tin can" attached to the engine side - the side front has a large number of holes in it and will easily pull off). The air filter inside is a sponge which can be pulled out. It can be squeezed out/washed in petrol and/or carefully washed in washing up liquid. Either way use gloves and watch out for anyting sharp the filter has picked up. The filter should be clean and dry before reinserting it.

Also remove the spark plug as it has now probably sooted up. It can be carefully washed with a nail or tooth brush but do not alter the spark gap. Again make sure it is completely clean and dry before replacing it. If it is damaged or the spark end corroded or you have accidently altered the spark gap get a replacement.

Hopefully it should now start and run well. If the problem reoccurs (in the next week or so) or the engine is not running sweetly then. The petrol may be wrong or the carburetor may be wrongly adjusted or blocked.
