2002 Peugeot 307HDi SW very slow aceleration until turbo kicks in?

2002 Peugeot 307HDi SW very slow aceleration until turbo kicks in. It can take upto 20 seconds to get upto the revs for the turbo to kick in. Once the turbo starts it is ok but then drops off again. once the engine warms up it is ok(ish) Any ideas thanks

probably a faulty turbo solenoid will need checking/replacing.

Sounds like the exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) valve has given up. Does it black smoke when the turbo kicks in? what engine is it?
