Triton T80i outlet pipe leak?

Hi, my thermostat was faulty so I replaced it but now the water leaks from the outlet pipe - about 50% comes out the shower and 50% leaks all over the electrics. I have tried smearing the O ring with soap and vaseline all to no effect.

I am sure that Triton showers have a Pressure Relief Device that blows if the thermostst fails.Try this link.
