Vacuum motor cuts out?

My Kenmore 4.0 canister vacuum's beater motor keeps cutting out. I just changed the belt, and put in a new bag. any guesses as to why this happens? The main motor is working fine. I checked the hoses and pipes, and there are no obstructions I can find.
