techumseh 24 engine won't start?

Hi,
I've inheritied a techumseh 24 engine for my petrol lawn mower, I've realised the spark plug isn't producing the spark so have ordered another 1. We've left the petrol in the machine over winter should we drain and restart. Do we need fresh petrol or just use whats left in the can?
Has it got a battery, do u know where I can get a manual for it?
Really appreciate your help.
Regards,
Elaine

Hopefully the spark plugs will care take of the first problem. Are you sure that the magnetos are not grounding out? You do not want to use old gasoline. The stuff ages over time and it will not burn efficiently. Buy some fresh stuff. If this engine has been sitting for awhile it can be an adventure to get started again. Buy some stating fluid(ether) Search for the model number of the engine on the interent, you should be able to find something.
