How can I mend a tear in my vinyl chair (it's in the seam)?

My chair is actually leather, except where you can't see & that part is vinyl that's where the hole is. It is in a seam & is very rough when you run hand over it (it's where I put my foot when I sit in the chair, it's a recliner but I put my foot up in the chair, big mistake). Any help would be appreciated.

Use a small curved needle and waxed thread. Tie the new thread to a loose thread at one end. Then using the original holes line up both sides of the seam. Take one stitch on one side and them one stitch on the opposite side lining up the holes evenly. Do not pull tight until you have finished the whole seam repair. Remember any new thread will be stronger than the thread used in the old seam, so don't pull too hard. You may need to pull a few stitches at a time to tighten. Tie off new and old thread together at the end. Cut the thread about an inch from the knot and tuck it into the finished seam. You are done!

If the tear is along a seam and it is on an area which can be removed you could restitch on a sewing machine.Leather normally needs a leather needle but it is possible to stitch without one.Failing this,on a fixed area repair, you could stitch by hand but this is not an easy job for someone who has never attempted this type of thing and you need a leather needle to do it.
