oil leak from ford focus tcci estate?

oil splatter marks up the tailgate also along the drivers side sill and font and rear drivers side alloys, can't see where leak is coming from due to the plate fitted under the car,the oil light only flickered a few times didn't stay on i haven't used the car since, the engine didn't make any strange noises, there is a lot of oil under the car

Don't drive the car until you've removed the splash guard from underneath and had a look - you'll risk terminal damage to the engine if the oil level falls too far. Chances are its from the oil filter housing or sump plug but who knows? If the oil lamp has flickered on you are seriously short of oil.
