vauxhall vectra 1.8 auto (2000) misfiring & eratic idling?

I have a vauxhall vectra 1.8 auto (2000) That has a chronic misfire problem and will not idle. The engine management light is also on. It has had new plugs and a new idle control valve but this has not helped.Please can you help.Thanks. Paul
