Can i remove the switch in the back of an ex royal mail van??

Hi
I have on ex royal mail van (vauxhall combo 2003). I'm just wondering firstly what is the white switch that is located in the rear of the van for? I have no idea what it does. Is it safe to remove it?

it's a timer unit for rear interior lights, you should be able to couple manufacturers wiring and do away with timer/switch unit.
