How can I fix my Cannon Chichester gas cooker ?

I turn the main oven on. Burner lights. It will not respond to any 1 to 9 heat setting. Flame remains low.

Assume it needs a new Thermostat. I would like instructions how to gain access for removing existing and replacing a new Thermostat. It looks like a major operation?

Thanks in anticipation. Art

Point taken Jason, this is whats bugging me. Ive done all my installations and repairs since 1950. Things have tighten up a bit since. Im going through the motions. Am having second thoughts about the DIY part. No longer have certificate.

Jay. Is this what you have found:

Dont even attemp it...breaking into the gas line on anything requires a gas safe registered engineer....and btw it aint your thermostat!!! :-)

Hi Jay

Cannon Chichester Cooker.
Thanks for your advice regarding the FSD. I never thought of that. Had this problem many years ago, a thermostat fixeded it, however there was no failier device in those days.

I wil have a look for a FSD. Please keep me informed as I will You.

Oh...and to add...

To get at the FSD for the lower oven, it is on the lower right hand side of the lower oven (looking from the front); behind the right hand side panel. The sensor travels under the oven to the burners at the back...

...and just out of interest, the thermostat is located on the back of the lower oven control unit (whole unit is replaced), you need to remove the pan hobs. My Dad did this by removing the sides and taking off the vent grill at the back, top then lifted upward.

Cheers

Hi there, hope this helps, but my parents Cannon Chichester has just suffered exactly the same problem.

Also assuming it to be the thermostat, myself and my dad found it: attached to the unit behind the control knob (under the pan hobs) and set about replacing it after sourcing it from the net. My Dad fitted it up today but no avail, exactly the same symtoms persist.

I have since spent some time search the net this eve, a few suggestions point to the FSD (Flame Failure Safety Device); Both myself and my Dad wondered if this was the problem unit. Anyway, I'm now trying to source one (there is one on the Cannon Parts site but I'm hoping there are cheaper places to get one).

Hope this helps and saves you replacing the thermostat/lower oven control knob like we have!
