What's wrong with my Hotpoint Aquarius WT540?

The machine appears to be functioning correctly but the clothes smell when they come out.The machine has the same smell when you smell inside the drum.

I have the same problem with my hotpoint aquarius and havent found a solution after 5 years of owning it. I thought it was something I was doing in the first year so didnt call out the engineer. However, nothing has helped. Running it on a hot cycle will only stop the smell for a wash or two and then it returns. No idea why but googling this issue shows it is a fault with this particular machine.

Now I simply put the clothes on a rinse cycle after the normal wash. Annoying but at least it helps.

does the discharged drain water go into an stand pipe or or connect to a spigot underneath the sink?
if into a stand pipe ok.
if connected to spigot on trap then thats your problem !
whatever discharges down the sink drain will certainly bring back dirty water to machine or get smells back from waste drain.
you can buy a simple fitting called a drain away kit that comes in the shape of a plastic clamp , once fitted on waste pipe under sink it comes with it's own cutting tool to bore hole in waste pipe.
remove cutting tool & screw in adapter fitted with it's own non return valve to stop any smells or water getting back into machine. hope this helps.

Give the machine an empty run through on the hottest possible setting, using a bio washing liquid. This should help to clean it - and it should be repeated every couple of months.
