'96 pug 406 1.9 diesel speedo works intermintly

most of the time its the speedo drive on the gearbox faulty. held in by 11mm bolt on gearbox with wire attached to sender, on top of o/s driveshaft housing. replacing it usually cures fault. could try second hand one first if unsure.
