briggs and stratton linkage problems HELLLLP?

Hi There
just moved into a house in france and I have a rotavator that i have found at the back of my garage it is a french model but it is fitted with a 5hp briggs and stratton engine model number 130902 type 0668-01 code 80121906 and i am sure there is a spring or something missing off it, it starts but dies after 5-10 seconds and may have been stood for a few years, just wondering if i could find a clear picture off the net of the linkage set up at the carb as there is only one spring there and the cable that keeps the revs up is also snapped and has been replaced with a piece of string lol but i would love to get it working and actualy use it
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me

Very good enige, sounds like your gaskets are busted. Take it for a good service and it will last you years. Don't let anybody tell you its too old and not woth working on!

Hi Phil
Many thanks for that i have taken the 4 screws out of the side of the carb and found the rubber gasket thing inside the plate is that the diaphragm or am i in the wrong place sorry but total novice to these engines.Something else i noticed when the engine runs it pours petrol out of the joint inbetween the carb and the fuel tank so i will get a new gasket for there as well i think i found a really good owners manual and parts manual for this engine online so going to print it off and check everything and order a couple of bits

There should be a light spring from the lever that has the throttle cable attached to the govenor air vane under the cowling.

There should also be a fairly stiff compression spring between the lever and the cable anchor - but this is only the cable return spring, and has no effect on the running.

Your cutting out problem is probably due to a perished diaphragm (under the cover on right hand side of inlet manifold).
