Noisy ?

A rachety noise appears between cycles on my Hotpoint WMA58 any ideas please

The traditional controller for a washing machine is a bank of cam operated switches (about a dozen) driven by a small electric motor.

The motor drive is interrupted by timers and various sensors so it will stop and start throughout the washing cycle. It will make a clickety click - chunk sound as it advances and the various switches make and break inside - you are probably hearing this - if so it's quite normal.
