Hi Richard and Judi
I suspect that it is the flywheel at fault - basically its two flywheels connected together with spring steel straps, and when they fail they start to rumble and vibrate and eventually knock quite badly, when replacement is inevitable. I've had these things fail at lower mileages than yours and they are very expensive, especially when it makes sense to change the clutch as well. However, poor engine mounts or even a poor quality replacement exhaust can also cause vibration but I would have expected Mr. Ford to have looked at those. Personally I would see if the problem worsens - certainly it won't go away. Depending on how old your car is, Ford may consider a goodwill payment gesture but I'd doubt it - largely it depends on how much hell you are prepared to raise. Best wishes! John
