PTO drive on hayter harrier 2 19 inch cut?

The drive shaft (PTO) is not turning when the engine is running.I have managed to fix the clutch and gear mechanism's. But there is no drive to the rear roller. If there is anybody out there who could supply me with a manual or diagrams it would be greatly appreciated

The problem is almost certainly that a roll pin coupling the drive shaft to the motor has broken. It is quite asy to replace: Procedure is: Remove engine from mower (you will need some king of puller to remove the bottom hub on which the blade sits). Drain Oil. At bottom of engine is a small hatch: remove this to reveal a gear fitted on to the drive shaft with a roll pin (which is probably broken so th gear isnt secured to the shaft. Tap out the broken bits of the roll pin taking great care to extract the bits and not let then drop into the engine. remove a small securing plate and remove the drive shaft and then the gear. Buy a new roll pin of correct size and reassemble

I have acquired similar to do up or rob for spares. I don't have a definitive answer about the PTO shaft, but would imagine that if it is not turning prior to the clutch, then it must be a broken drive within the Briggs and Stratton engine. If it were this, it is proabably fixable, but you'd have to question whether it's worth the hassle of removing and stripping the engine, acquiring new parts and re-installing. I think Hayters were built to last (and do last much longer than "modern" lawnmowers), but everything has to expire at some point! As a check, do all the safety things (spark plug disconnect, petrol out etc) turn upside down, rotate blades by hand and see if the PTO shaft rotates. If it does, then your problem will be in the clutch or drive train downstream of the clutch.

A useful link is http://www.shouldersofshoreham.co.uk/sos_17Bamp.mvc?p=216-80301 which shows an illustrated parts breakdown. You can back navigate from there to find your model.
