chainsaw is not getting gas sat for years runs if you dump gas down carburator

replace the fuel filter and the fuel lines running to the carb. Its probably best to to pull the carb and clean it well with carb cleaner and it shouls run fine. If not the carb will have to get a rebuild kit which is really chep and not hard to do unless you take to a shop to do it
