MY CANDY TUMBLE DRYER THROWS TRIP SWITCH?

My Candy Condenser tumble dryer CDC 266 does exactly the same - either it throws the trip switch as soon as it is plugged in or when the start is pressed. What's wrong?

If the trip goes just when you plug in, but don't even switch on, it shows a fault between neutral and earth. Either way, I guess the heating element has called it a day.
