on corsa van, steering rack tie bars are available as a seperate item and are easy to change with rack in situ [with correct tool] i would have thought it would be same for car. this of course is assuming that only tie rod inner joints are worn!

I have had 3 corsas and an astra inc 1.2sxi.Yes the racks are rubbish.my sxi only made it to 9,000miles before needing a new one.my other 3 have also had new racks one only lasted to ,2,000miles.Also power steering pump failed at 50miles,1st day of ownership. watch out for clutch save cylinder going around 30,000.these are all known weaknesses on corsas, trust me.vauxhall reconised the steering rack problem and built a heavy duty one because the original was so weak.check you will be gatting updated part, hope this helps

Do get a second opinion - the rack may well have had it but it also could just be loose.....
